  107. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT?
  108. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  109.   SnagIt has been providing Microsoft Windows users with an easy way
  110.   to capture and print Windows screens since it was first released in
  111.   1990.  In "Windows 3.1 Secrets," author Brian Livingston calls
  112.   SnagIt "the print utility Microsoft Windows forgot."
  113.  
  114.   SnagIt allows Windows users to capture an entire screen, an
  115.   individual window or a user defined portion of the screen.  SnagIt
  116.   will ALSO capture the entire contents of a scrolling window!  In
  117.   addition, SnagIt also accepts input directly from the Windows
  118.   clipboard or a Windows bitmap (BMP) file.  Once captured, SnagIt can
  119.   send the image to the printer, the clipboard, or a graphics file.

  121.   Captured images can be pasted into other Windows applications such
  122.   as word processors and desktop publishing programs from the Windows
  123.   clipboard or by importing the images from saved graphic files.
  124.  
  125.   Software developers will find that SnagIt's full DDE support allows
  126.   it's functionality to easily be incorporated into other Windows
  127.   applications.  SnagIt also provides MAPI support for Windows 95 and
  128.   NT, allowing captured images to be readily sent in an e-mail message.

  130. 1.1 What is the SnagIt Twin Pack?
  131.  
  132.   Many organizations are in the early stages of the transition from
  133.   Windows 3.1x to Windows 95 or NT.  To assist during this period,
  134.   TechSmith is offering the SnagIt Twin Pack.  It includes a 16-bit
  135.   version, tailored for Windows 3.1x, as well as a true 32-bit version
  136.   for Windows 95 and NT. The setup program automatically detects the
  137.   workstation's operating environment and loads the appropriate
  138.   version.  The purchaser is licensed to run either version and to
  139.   switch between them without further payment. Purchasing the Twin
  140.   Pack provides the benefits of running SnagIt today without the
  141.   penalty of Windows 95 or NT upgrade fees in the future.

  144. 2.  SNAGIT TWIN PACK SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  146.   In order to run SnagIt, your system must meet these specifications:

  148.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  149.      requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.

  151.   o  Microsoft Windows 3.1x, Windows For Workgroups 3.1x,
  152.      Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or Windows 95 installed and
  153.      configured on your system.

  158.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink jet
  159.      printers that Windows supports.  Plotters are not recommended for

  401. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  402. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  403. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  404.  
  405.   The SnagIt installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  406.   application.  You must have Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
  407.   NT or Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt.  Setup will
  408.   automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  409.   appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt, perform
  410.   the following steps:
  411.  
  412.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  413.  
  414.   2. Insert the SnagIt Twin Pack diskette into a floppy drive.
  415.  
  416.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  417.  
  418.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  419.  
  420.   For Windows 3.1x and Windows NT 3.51 users:
  421.  
  422.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  423.      from the drop down menu.
  424.  
  425.   For all users:
  426.  
  427.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  428.           a:\setup
  429.      (If you are installing SnagIt from a diskette drive other than
  430.      the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  431.      command line above.)
  432.  
  433.   5. Click on the OK button.
  434.  
  435.   6. When you have finished entering the setup information, click on
  436.      the Install button to install SnagIt.
  437.  
  438.  
  439. 6.2  Uninstall Instructions
  440.  
  441.   If after installing SnagIt Twin Pack, you find it necessary to
  442.   remove the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  443.  
  444.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  445.  
  446.   1. Run the Windows Control Panel
  447.  
  448.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  449.  
  450.   3. Select SnagIt from the list of applications that can uninstalled
  451.      by Windows.
  452.  
  453.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt.
  454.  
  455.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  456.  
  457.   1. Select the FILE RUN menu option in Program Manager.
  458.  
  459.   2. Type in the command line the following:
  460.  
  461.      TSCUNST /UN
  462.  
  463.   3. Press OK to uninstall SnagIt.
  464.  
  465.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, or if you have
  466.   Windows 3.x, see the following section for uninstall instructions.

  468.  
  469. 6.3  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  470.  
  471.   If you do not have Windows 95 or encountered a problem during the
  472.   uninstall, here are the steps you can take to manually uninstall
  473.   SnagIt from your computer.
  474.  
  475.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows 3.1x and WFW 3.1x
  476.  
  477.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  478.  
  479.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt was
  480.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt icon to highlight it. Press
  481.      the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  482.  
  483.   3. If you selected "Start SnagIt when Windows Starts" when
  484.      installing SnagIt, delete SnagIt from the Startup group.
  485.  
  486.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  487.      SnagIt icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm that
  488.      you wish to delete the program item.
  489.  
  490.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory in which you
  491.      installed SnagIt.  Delete the files SNAGIT.EXE and SNAGIT.HLP.
  492.  
  493.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows NT and Windows 95
  494.  
  495.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.

  497.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:

  499.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  500.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  501.      button.

  503.   3. Find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was installed. Click
  504.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  505.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  506.  
  507.   4. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  508.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  509.  
  510.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on the
  511.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  512.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  513.  
  514.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory in which you
  515.      installed SnagIt/32. Delete the files SnagIt32.EXE and
  516.      SnagIt32.HLP.
  517.  
  518.   For Windows NT 3.51 users:
  519.  
  520.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was
  521.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it.
  522.      Press the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program
  523.      item.
  524.  
  525.   3. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  526.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.

  537. 7.  STARTING AND USING SNAGIT
  538. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  539.   To start SnagIt, double-click on the SnagIt icon in the Accessories
  540.   group.  (If you specified a group other than Accessories during
  541.   SnagIt installation, look in that group for the SnagIt icon.)
  542.  
  543.   Double-clicking on the SnagIt icon will execute SnagIt and bring
  544.   it to the foreground in its maximized form.  When SnagIt is
  545.   maximized, you may change any of the setup options (input, output,
  546.   format, etc.) from the SnagIt menus.
  547.  
  548.   You can also invoke SnagIt (that is, instruct SnagIt to capture an
  549.   image) while it is maximized, though it will usually be more
  550.   convenient to minimize SnagIt before doing your screen captures.
  551.  
  552.   If you selected the "Load when Windows starts" checkbox during
  553.   installation, SnagIt will start automatically the next time you
  554.   start Windows.
  555.  
  556. 7.1 SnagIt Default Settings
  557.  
  558.   When you install SnagIt, it uses the following default options:
  559.  
  560.   o  Input is set to Screen.  This means that when SnagIt is invoked,
  561.      it will capture the entire Windows desktop.
  562.  
  563.   o  Output is set to Printer.  This means that when SnagIt is
  564.      invoked, it will send the captured image to the Windows default
  565.      printer for printing.
  566.  
  567.   o  Format is set to Color.  This means that SnagIt will capture the
  568.      image with the screen colors intact.  (In most cases you can
  569.      print images using this format setting, even if your printer is
  570.      not a color printer. For additional information about SnagIt
  571.      format options, see the Format options topic in the SnagIt Help
  572.      file.)
  573.  
  574.   o  Printer Scale is set to Fit on Page.  This means that SnagIt will
  575.      output the captured image (on paper) at a size similar as the
  576.      image appears on the Windows screen but will reduce the image if
  577.      it is longer than one page.
  578.  
  579.   Refer to the SnagIt Help file for additional information on setting
  580.   SnagIt's input, output, format and other options.
  581.  
  582.   You can tell which settings SnagIt is using by looking at the bottom
  583.   of the SnagIt window when the program is maximized.
  584.  
  585. 7.2 Invoking SnagIt with <CTRL><SHIFT><P>
  586.  
  587.   Once you have SnagIt's parameters set as you want them, you are

  625.   requesting a software key to register the version you have. The

  638.   1.  Select the SnagIt program's Help menu.

  642.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration

  645.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  646.             Your software key will be personalized for that name
  647.             ONLY.  Your key will NOT not work if you change this name

  650.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  651.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt default directory. This is
  652.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet and
  653.       your Product ID number.

  655.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  656.       allowing you to edit and or print the registration form.  While
  657.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  658.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  659.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  660.       applicable to diskette orders.

  662.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  663.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  664.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  665.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  666.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.

  807. The SnagIt installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  808. application.  You must have Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
  809. NT or Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt.  Setup will
  810. automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  811. appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt, perform
